OTHER IDEAS: These are for the future

Cowen-Town Plantings: Start a new project to “adopt” abandoned planters.  We could have a competition and let everyone vote on their favorite planter.  A cash prize could be given to the winner.

Garden Therapy: Monthly visits to the nursing home in Cowen will give us the opportunity to work with the residents, providing project that use fresh and dried materials.  Refreshments and a sing-a-long are part of every Garden Therapy day.

Program: “Ornamental Grasses” Present a program on how to use ornamental grasses in the landscape and what grasses will grow best in our area.

Program: “Winter Sowing” Want to get a jump on the season?  Show us how to sow outdoors using milk jugs.

Program: “Heirloom Plants” Learn how plants become an heirloom and a little about the history of heirloom plants.  Learn about their origins and where they may have come from.

Program: “Going Native” Show you why and how native plants can be used in the landscape.

Wreath Workshop Learn how to make holiday  wreaths.  A club member would agree to host this workshop.  That member would find patterns and decide what materials would be needed.  Each interested member will provide $10 for materials. The club can provide the funds for any additional  materials needed.

Work day at the Mini Garden: All garden club members and friends are invited to participate.  Bring a few snacks.  Bring your hat, gloves, favorite tools and join in the fun while helping to maintain our gardens!  We could also involve the schools and Scouts in the project.

Library Arrangements: Each week, or every two weeks, throughout the year, members decorate Cowen’s Library with a floral design they have created for the enjoyment of the public.

Garden Therapy: Provide a group of senior women with an afternoon of gardening-related workshops, social interactions, and refreshments each month from June through October.

Fundraiser plant sale: Dig up and divide material from your gardens.  Them pot them and grow them throughout the Spring.  Then we can sell them to the public.  Members of the club can be on hand to provide information on how best to grow the plants and information on earth-friendly gardening and composting is also available.

Donation Form: Donations in honor or appreciation of a special person may be made to the Cowen Garden Club as well as memorial donations to the Book of Remembrance

The donations are a lovely way to honor someone you love and support your local Garden Club.  All donations will go toward the purchase of flowers and other garden materials needed to keep our town looking beautiful.

Mini Garden Additions:  Install new solar lights, Plant shrubs,  lay walkways, turn on water and begin paying monthly water bill
